Dr. Lupo T. Carlota is a leading pioneer of modern scientific acupuncture.

He has brought acupuncture out of the dark ages by introducing a new and effective technique of treatment. The result is the MRA® System of Therapy.

An original thinker, Dr. Carlota advanced the “Quantum Theory of Acupuncture,” during the International Acupuncture Society Convention held in Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China in 1976. There he explained for the first time how acupuncture works from a scientific perspective.

His revolutionary postulate has since been regarded as a major breakthrough which signaled a radical departure from the empirical tenets that had subserved the foundations of acupuncture over the last five thousand years.

In 1983, he was invited to present his scientific theory and demonstrate the practical applications of MRA® Therapy at the medical centers of Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai in mainland China.

On December 17, 1993, Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos presented the "Pamana Ng Pilipino" Legacy of the Filipino Nation) Award to Dr. Carlota at the Presidential Palace in Manila "for his outstanding achievements and contributions in the field of medicine, particularly through pioneering efforts in modern scientific acupuncture research..." This prestigious award confers the Philippines' highest honors for exemplary service by any Filipino overseas.

In 1974, Dr. Carlota founded and now directs MARIA (Medical Acupuncture Research Institute of America,) an institution of higher learning that devotes to the study and practice of modern scientific acupuncture for western-trained physicians.

Over the last 31 years, he has successfully trained hundreds of physicians and helped them establish MRA® (Meridian Regulatory Acupuncture) as an integral part of their existing medical practice.
